Specially in the 90ties and first decade of this millenium I was working a lot with Installations and to installations connected activities. Due to my living in different countries and continents I was working with Identity and Space. In those installations and co productions with Theatre directors and actresses and actors I positioned myself in between those different Identity Qualities.

Merging and seperating those qualities I transformed exhibition spaces and public sIn the installations and related projects such as Vincent and I, The New Sobriety, and Eingang und Ausgang, the magic of space plays a crucial role. The aim is to enchant the space and transform it into a new optical, sometimes tactile and spatial experience. To achieve this, René de Rooze makes frequent use of repetition and the repetitive placement of various materials related to the space or theme of the installation. Examples include lignite briquettes, old GDR photos and biographies, burqas, coloured fluorescent light, and black cloths.

"These installations are often accompanied by a social commitment or a response to current developments. The approach varies from critical to humorous, and sometimes socially commentary. In his work, De Rooze sheds light on German history in all its facets, the rise of fundamentalism within Islam, and the search for or rediscovery of an identity. This search for identity is a common thread in De Rooze's work, and is partly influenced by his experiences of living in different countries and continents. This search is valuable and enlightening for him, but sometimes also completely confusing. It is a constant challenge to understand and reflect the complex layers of personal and cultural identity in his art."
